BBC Radio 1 breakfast show

All of the BBC's television and radio stations have a public service remit, including those that broadcast digitally.
The BBC, whose broadcasting in the UK is funded by a licence fee and does not sell advertising time, is most notable for being the first public service broadcaster in the UK
Their remit is to "inform, educate and entertain"

“The remit of Radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech.
Its target audience is 15-29 year olds and it should also provide some programming for younger teenagers.
It should offer a range of new music, support emerging artists - especially those from the UK - and provide a platform for live music. News, documentaries and advice campaigns should cover areas of relevance to young adults.”

Promoting British songs by playing all different popularity songs and the MST popular British songs

I think that the future of radio isn't going to be radio, more people stream their music and the population that listen to the radio is getting smaller. They get their news from the internet, download their music and play through spottily for example.

Discuss how Radio 1 maintains its listeners, including through marketing, varieties of audiences nationally and globally.
To do this you need to read the following link
Why is radio 1 losing so many listeners?  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36974767
Record notes on why R1’s viewing numbers have declined recently
Identify Radio 1’s approach for reversing these trends

Identify new approaches taken by Radio 1 (technological) to increase social interactions

They have lost their listeners due to a new host, streaming sites, etc
they are going to try and make a streaming site

Radio 1 has 4.1 million listeners over the age of 35 - and around 800,000 of them are over the age of 60.
15-24 year-olds listen to radio has gone from 29 million hours in 2010 to 16 million in 2016.
In March 2006, Radio 1 had a weekly reach of 9.9 million listeners aged over 15. In March 2016, it had 9.9 million.
That young audience has dropped from 3.7 million (45%) to 2.9 million (36%).
In 2016, Grimmy’s audience has increased from 5.25m to 5.37m listeners. But Radio 1Xtra lost listeners in the same period, dropping from 1.03m in Q3 to 909,000 in Q4. And Radio 1’s overall audience also fell from Q3 to Q4, down by 3.2 per cent to 9.56m.
"Taking the music we already curate across our linear networks and surfacing it in new ways for new audiences to discover. I’d really love [that service] to happen – what the music industry and audiences need right now is a fair deal and a market-maker and that’s the role that a BBC music discovery service could play. At the moment, radio and streaming, rather than being the strong marriage it ought to be, are like two nervous teenagers eyeing each other across a High School prom."

Media Language in the Jungle Book

Media Language in the Jungle Book In the 2016 trailer of the Jungle Book has been created using computers and CGI as well as special effects making it look verisimilitude . The animals and background images have been made to look incredibly realistic, this then attracts attention to how the movie looks so real when really it’s a movie containing talking animals. In comparison the 1967 version of the Jungle Book has been made as a cartoon with no special computers or technology, the backgrounds are watercolour and the animals are simple animations. This doesn’t make the movie realistic and is more attractive to the younger audience. Dramatic non-diegetic music has been used throughout the trailer to give the audience a small hint that the movie is going to be really dramatic and have lots of twists and turns. Then there is the diegetic sound of Scarlet Johansson talking as the snake, which is calm and juxtaposes the dramatic movie but then towards the end of the movie you act...

Downton Abbey analysis

At 0:47 the contrast in costumes shows the difference between the rich and the poor. The rich people are wearing expensive, traditionally high class outfits (suits) and the lower class are wearing work outfits for example the servants (aprons and hats) and the paper boy. This shows a direct contrast between the two classes.  There is high key lighting in the upper class peoples section of the house showing that they are more powerful because they are in a brightly lit area. Low key lighting is used in the areas of the house such as the kitchen where the servants work and live because traditionally they would be in the bottom floor of the house.  At 0:49, the man looks down on the paper boy as he is late and snatches the paper from him.  At 1:09 there is a close up shot of the man reading the newspaper and you can see the facial expression but there is no clue on what he is reading.  At 1:17 you can see the class difference as the lower class workers have to i...
