Essay

From the 02/10/2017 Big Breakfast show discuss how Program producers adapt the content of the Big Breakfast show to meet the needs of its audience(s) whilst satisfying it remit to inform, entertain and educate. You will as part of the essay:
·      Discuss the strategies taken by R1 to maintain and grow audience levels with the target audience.
Reflect on the difference between commercial radio and Public service broadcasting.

BBC radio 1 has a target audience of 15 to 29 year olds and they need to appeal to everyone in this audience as well as inform, entertain and educate.

To appeal to the older audience they have news segments about what is currently happening in the world, this coincides with the inform and educate section of their remit. They also inform the younger audience with entertainment news as well as the world news. For example, Grimmy who is the host talks about celebrities such as Kim Kardashian who is popular with the younger teenage audience.

The show needs to find ways to entertain everyone within the target audience. Some ways they have entertained both ends of the age range if have Demi Lovato on the show. Demi Lovato appeals to the younger audience because she has songs that are in the charts and is also similar to them as she went through depression and mental health issues that the younger audience may be going through as well. She also appeals to the older end of the target audience as she was in Camp Rock which would have appealed to them when they was younger, Grimmy got her to try and recall lyrics from the movie. The breakfast show tries to retain their audience by talking about shows for all the audiences such as Im a celeb and League Of Our Own. Another strategy they have is playing all the songs that are in the top charts and they even get some audience members to ring in and choose the next sing to play. When they ring in Grimmy also talks to them almost as if they are friends.

Another strategy they have is to inform the audiences about the things that are hot right now or aren't hot. For example, in the show on the 2nd of October they had a big debate about crocs which are not hot. They also talk about competitions that the audiences could win such as concert tickets and tickets to the Teen Choice Awards.

Commercial broadcasting is broadcasting radio owned by a private corporation and make money from ads. Public service broadcasting is radio that is there solely for the publics benefit. The BBC is the worlds leading public service broadcaster.

Media Language in the Jungle Book

Media Language in the Jungle Book In the 2016 trailer of the Jungle Book has been created using computers and CGI as well as special effects making it look verisimilitude . The animals and background images have been made to look incredibly realistic, this then attracts attention to how the movie looks so real when really it’s a movie containing talking animals. In comparison the 1967 version of the Jungle Book has been made as a cartoon with no special computers or technology, the backgrounds are watercolour and the animals are simple animations. This doesn’t make the movie realistic and is more attractive to the younger audience. Dramatic non-diegetic music has been used throughout the trailer to give the audience a small hint that the movie is going to be really dramatic and have lots of twists and turns. Then there is the diegetic sound of Scarlet Johansson talking as the snake, which is calm and juxtaposes the dramatic movie but then towards the end of the movie you act...

Downton Abbey analysis

At 0:47 the contrast in costumes shows the difference between the rich and the poor. The rich people are wearing expensive, traditionally high class outfits (suits) and the lower class are wearing work outfits for example the servants (aprons and hats) and the paper boy. This shows a direct contrast between the two classes.  There is high key lighting in the upper class peoples section of the house showing that they are more powerful because they are in a brightly lit area. Low key lighting is used in the areas of the house such as the kitchen where the servants work and live because traditionally they would be in the bottom floor of the house.  At 0:49, the man looks down on the paper boy as he is late and snatches the paper from him.  At 1:09 there is a close up shot of the man reading the newspaper and you can see the facial expression but there is no clue on what he is reading.  At 1:17 you can see the class difference as the lower class workers have to i...
